Our Frequently Asked Questions page aims to answer some of our most commonly asked disability adaptations FAQs. It also provides information regarding general design and build queries.

Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) are financial awards for property adaptations that enable eligible disabled people to continue living safely and independently at home.

Eligibility covers a broad range of physical and mental disabilities, as well as age-related disabilities and terminal illness.

Capital grants range between £1,000 and £30,000 and they are administered by local housing authorities in England. We recommend you contact your local authority or the Gov.uk site for full details.

Unfortunately we are not in a position to advise you. We strongly recommend that visit your local authority website or the Gov.uk site for full details. Be advised that you should not commission a project before your grant has been fully approved.

Absolutely! We are happy to work on DFG funded projects and will do everything we can to design a first-class solution for your budget. If you have had approval for a DFG funded project, please get in touch and we will get the ball rolling by liaising with your appointed advisors and health specialists.

Freedom specialises in larger scale disability adapted residential and commercial projects. This includes full home modifications, specially adapted property extensions and custom-designed new buildings.

If you are looking to have minor adaptions made, such as fitting a few grab rails and ramps, we would recommend contacting a reputable local builder experienced in undertaking disability adaptations.

This all depends on the scale and complexity of your particular project. Timings also depend on whether your project needs to go though the planning process.

Once we know the full scope of your project, we can provide an estimated timescale. When planning permission is granted, we will book your project in and provide a proposed schedule with a clear delivery date.

At every stage, you will be kept up to date with progress and informed if any unavoidable delays occur (such as late delivery of specialist equipment etc). In every case, we will endeavour to get you into your project delivered as swiftly as possible.

Based in Kent, we serve all areas across the county, as well as Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex, Essex and Hampshire. We can in some circumstances work further afield, so please contact us to find out if we can help.

Even if your adapted extension can be built under Permitted Development rights, all work must have Building Regulations approval. We ensure every aspect of your building project meets (and exceeds) the minimum requirements for structural integrity and safety, as well as any specific UK regulations that apply to special adaptations.

Big is not always better. Freedom focuses on creating well-designed adapted extensions that fit with your needs and budget – not just the space available.

This frequently involves nature-based partnerships as part of wider schemes and carbon reduction methods on general construction with regards to manufacturing and transportation.

If you are looking to make your building project more sustainable, we are happy to advise on ways to achieve your goals wherever possible. This includes the use of more eco-friendly building materials, such as Woodcrete, and the installation of sustainable energy equipment, such as heat source pumps and solar panels.
