Freedom can deliver every aspect of your project from initial design ideas all the way through to landscaping and accessible outdoor areas.

Freedom Living Solutions are specialist disability property builders. We were founded in 2017 in response to the lack of companies that focus on adapting building designs to suit the needs of people with disabilities.

Director Daniel Calnan created the company to support families and develop solutions within a budget that suits them.

As speciailst disability property builders, our expertise is now offered to commercial and public sector clients seeking to develop disability enabled construction projects and development schemes.

Freedom leaves no stone unturned in finding ways to do quality work whilst sticking to an agreed spend.

Our Story - Daniel Calnan, Director

Photo of Daniel Calnan, Freedom DirectorI have been involved in construction for my whole working life. But after a tragic accident several years ago, my youngest daughter was left with severe complex needs resulting from a traumatic brain injury.  I had to find a property that I could re-model to create an adapted home we could all share as a family. In 2015 I did this with the help of my team at Kent Structures. Creating a home that really mattered – and gave so much satisfaction and enjoyment – led to the decision to do this for other people.

Freedom was set up in 2017 as a specialist design and build service that could work directly with families, consultants and architects.  I am so pleased to have the opportunity to keep helping people in this way.

DANIEL CALNAN, Director

Daniel started his career with four years in the RAF, before moving on to working in London-based cladding and glazing companies – working on huge projects such as the Eden project. Moving back to Kent, he continued a successful career in construction; including re-development of his old school.

With over 20 years in the construction industry, Dan is an integral part of all that we do as a company. He fully involves himself in every step of a project, listening to the client’s wishes to ensure their house becomes a real home.

With creative flair and an eye for detail, Dan leads his team to deliver projects on time, within budget and to the highest standard.

Outside of work, Dan is a big family man who loves spending time with his wife and daughters (and their three dogs). He loves to keep busy outdoors and watch rugby!

JUSTIN HAZELDEN, Contracts

Justin brings a wealth of construction industry expertise to the Freedom team. With a background as a carpenter, he’s unafraid to return to fundamentals to achieve sustainable outcomes. Like Dan, Justin honed his skills in major building corporations, bringing with him impressive skills and an ability to  help clients achieve great results – regardless of the project’s scale.

Justin believes Freedom Living Solutions’ strengths lie in value engineering and sustainability. As a company we create houses and buildings that are adapted to the needs of the client, so both these elements are key. Through design, our choice of quality materials and hard work, we always achieve the best outcomes.

In his free time, Justin loves spending time with his wife and four daughters, going out with friends and family and archery.

Nikki was supported in her studies towards the CIMA, alongside priceless in-house mentorship, during her 7 years in this role.

After taking time off to start a family, Nikki returned to construction. This time taking on a new set of challenges with an award-winning refurbishment company. She joined Kent Structures in 2023.
