Freedom is pleased to confirm that a planning application has been submitted for accessibility adaptations at the Connaught Club in London.
The proposed works include the installation of an external access slope, a new power-assisted main entrance, enhanced step-free access to the tennis courts, and a reconfiguration of the existing toilet facilities to create a wheelchair accessible changing area.
These improvements aim to ensure that the Connaught Club, a long-established local sports facility in Chingford, is welcoming and accessible to everyone; including disabled individuals, older adults, and those with reduced mobility.
Freedom has provided specialist consultation and design services across the project, including the drawing package for planning. Building works will go out to tender once planning permission has been obtained.
Accessibility in sports and leisure settings is increasingly recognised as a priority, not only to meet legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010, but to promote inclusion and support healthier, more connected communities. Design guidance from organisations such as Sport England and the British Standards Institution (BS8300) highlights the importance of level access, automated doors, and appropriately designed changing spaces in enabling equal participation.
We are proud to support the development of inclusive sports facilities and look forward to progressing this important project in collaboration with the club and its members.
