Accessible Garden Design at RHS Chelsea

We are delighted to announce that Freedom is providing specialist design input for a unique accessible garden design at the upcoming Chelsea Flower Show.

Wide pathways will ensure easy navigation for those requiring level access, alongside raised beds showcasing oriental floral displays by Brookfield Plants. An impressive raised pond containing a vibrant collection of Koi adds to the calming atmosphere.

A descriptive commentary and enchanting sounds will further enrich the experience for visitors with visual impairments. The exhibit also accommodates visitors with neurodiverse conditions such as autism or sensory processing disorders.

As part of the design and construction team, Freedom has provided detailed designs to help create an accessible and inclusive space that can be enjoyed by all visitors.

Further good news is that the garden may continue to flourish in a permanent home at the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) in Nottinghamshire. Construction is currently underway on this state-of-the-art facility which will provide life-changing rehabilitation for those with newly-acquired disabilities and long-term health conditions. So our accessible garden has the potential to offer a beautiful and therapeutic space for patients to enjoy in the longer term.

We are incredibly excited by the generosity of the team behind the Stand in considering this donation. This innovative garden would provide our patients with a beautiful and accessible sanctuary to support their rehabilitation journey. Miriam Duffy, Director, National Rehabilitation Centre

If you are planning to visit the show, you can explore our accessible garden design at the Brookfield Plants stand in the Grand Pavilion. The show runs from 21st – 25th May and tickets can be purchased from the RHS website.

Thank you to all members of the design team – it has been a great pleasure working with you.

It has been our pleasure to contribute our specialist skills and experience to this unique accessible garden experience at Chelsea. The cherry on the cake is knowing that the garden could provide an ongoing oasis for patients at the National Rehabilitation Centre. Daniel Calnan, Director, Freedom Living Solutions
